Ingredients:

  • 700 g pork shoulder or pork stew meat, cut into cubes
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 400 ml tomato sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 bell peppers, sliced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil in a large pan and brown the pork on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, cook the onion until soft, then add the garlic.
  3. Stir in the sweet paprika, smoked paprika, and tomato paste. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add the tomato sauce and beef broth, then return the pork to the pan.
  5. Add the bell peppers, bay leaves, caraway seeds, salt, and pepper.
  6. Cover and simmer over low heat for 1½–2 hours, until the pork is tender.
  7. If needed, stir in the flour mixed with a little water to thicken the sauce.
  8. Serve hot with bread, mashed potatoes, or Hungarian dumplings.
