Ingredients:
- 700 g pork shoulder or pork stew meat, cut into cubes
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 400 ml tomato sauce
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 bell peppers, sliced
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp flour (optional, for thickening)
Instructions:
- Heat the oil in a large pan and brown the pork on all sides. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, cook the onion until soft, then add the garlic.
- Stir in the sweet paprika, smoked paprika, and tomato paste. Cook for 1 minute.
- Add the tomato sauce and beef broth, then return the pork to the pan.
- Add the bell peppers, bay leaves, caraway seeds, salt, and pepper.
- Cover and simmer over low heat for 1½–2 hours, until the pork is tender.
- If needed, stir in the flour mixed with a little water to thicken the sauce.
- Serve hot with bread, mashed potatoes, or Hungarian dumplings.
