Hungarian Layered Honey Cake (Mézes Krémes)
Ingredients:
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 150 g sugar
- 100 g butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp milk
For the Cream:
- 750 ml milk
- 200 g butter
- 150 g sugar
- 80 g semolina
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Glaze:
- 150 g dark chocolate
- 50 g butter
Instructions:
- Heat the honey, butter, sugar, and milk until melted. Remove from heat, add baking soda, then mix in the eggs.
- Gradually add the flour and knead into a smooth dough.
- Divide into 5 equal pieces and roll each into a thin rectangle.
- Bake each layer at 180°C (350°F) for 6–8 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool.
- For the cream, boil the milk, whisk in the semolina, and cook until thick. Cool completely.
- Beat the butter with the sugar and vanilla, then mix with the cooled semolina cream.
- Spread the cream evenly between the cake layers.
- Melt the chocolate with the butter and pour over the top layer.
- Refrigerate for at least 8 hours (preferably overnight).
- Cut into rectangles and serve.
