Hungarian Layered Honey Cake (Mézes Krémes) – Recipe
Ingredients
For the dough:
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 150 g powdered sugar
- 100 g butter
- 2 eggs
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp milk
For the cream:
- 750 ml milk
- 200 g butter
- 150 g sugar
- 80 g semolina
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
For the chocolate glaze:
- 150 g dark chocolate
- 50 g butter
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- Mix the flour, powdered sugar, and baking soda.
- Add the butter, eggs, honey, and milk. Knead into a smooth dough.
- Divide into 6 equal pieces and roll each into a thin rectangle.
- Bake each layer at 180°C (350°F) for 6–8 minutes. Let cool.
- Heat the milk, stir in the semolina, and cook until thick. Cool completely.
- Beat the butter with the sugar until fluffy, then mix into the cooled semolina. Add the vanilla.
- Spread the cream evenly between the cake layers.
- Melt the chocolate with the butter and oil, then pour over the top layer.
- Refrigerate for 12–24 hours before slicing and serving.
