Hungarian Jam-Filled Crescent Cookies (Lekváros Kifli)
Ingredients
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 250 g unsalted butter, softened
- 200 ml sour cream
- 2 egg yolks
- 50 g sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 200 g apricot or plum jam
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Mix the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
- Add the butter and rub it into the flour until crumbly.
- Add the sour cream, egg yolks, and vanilla extract, then knead into a smooth dough.
- Cover and chill the dough for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough to about 3 mm thickness and cut it into triangles.
- Place a small spoonful of jam on the wide end of each triangle.
- Roll them into crescent shapes.
- Arrange on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 18–22 minutes until lightly golden.
- Let them cool slightly and dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
