Hungarian Fried Langos (Traditional Hungarian Fried Flatbread)
Ingredients
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 7 g instant dry yeast (or 25 g fresh yeast)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1½ tsp salt
- 300 ml warm milk
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions
- Mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil.
- Knead until smooth and elastic (about 8–10 minutes).
- Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Divide the dough into 6–8 equal pieces. Shape each into a ball and let rest for 15 minutes.
- Stretch each ball by hand into a thin round or oval, leaving the edges slightly thicker.
- Heat oil to 175°C (350°F). Fry each piece for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm.

- Garlic butter or garlic water
- Sour cream
- Grated cheese
- Ham or smoked sausage
