Hungarian Layered Honey Cake (Mézes Krémes)
Ingredients:
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 150 g sugar
- 100 g butter
- 2 eggs
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp milk
Cream:
- 750 ml milk
- 200 g butter
- 150 g powdered sugar
- 80 g semolina
Chocolate Glaze:
- 200 g dark chocolate
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions:
- Heat the butter, honey, sugar, and milk until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the baking soda. Let cool slightly, then mix in the eggs and flour to form a dough.
- Divide the dough into 5 equal pieces. Roll each into a thin rectangle and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 6–8 minutes. Cool completely.
- For the cream, boil the milk, add the semolina, and cook until thick. Let it cool completely. Beat the butter with the powdered sugar, then mix into the cooled semolina cream.
- Spread the cream evenly between the cake layers.
- Melt the chocolate with the vegetable oil and pour over the top layer. Spread evenly.
- Refrigerate for at least 12 hours before cutting into rectangles and serving.
